Robust, functional, and heavy-duty are words commonly associated with our products.
We don't settle for second-best, and we never will.
These statements may sound easy to make, but at Richmond, we have the proof to back them up. Our history speaks for itself. Starting as a steel trading business in 1958, Richmond moved into manufacturing materials handling products in 1961. This marks 64 years of experience in Australian manufacturing—an exceptional achievement, as Richmond is one of the last standing Australian manufacturers.
Throughout many global economic downturns, Richmond has not only survived but grown stronger, thanks to our commitment to innovation. In the 1980s, our manufacturing of wheels and castors for materials handling equipment became a highly successful focus. Today, Richmond is the leading wheel and castor company in Australia, with a stellar reputation as a wheel-maker for industry. Our family-driven business culture plays a vital role in our ongoing success.
Since Frank Winslow founded the company in 1958, three generations have been part of our journey. Frank’s son, Ray Winslow, serves as the current company chair, and his grandson, Breon Winslow-Moore, is also involved. Breon manages our special projects division, overseeing Richmond’s largest custom projects. Glen Winslow, Breon’s twin brother, has a wealth of experience in sales and is passionate about the future of the business.
Frank’s strong work ethic has been passed down through the generations. One of Ray’s first tasks at Richmond was dismantling the superstructure of a furnace chimney at our Clayton headquarters, using an oxy torch, sledgehammer, and axe. While most companies were outsourcing manufacturing, Richmond remained committed to Australian-made products, building a reputation for quality, custom solutions, and responsiveness to market demands.
Today, Richmond is recognized as a leader in polyurethane engineering, particularly in the design and manufacturing of pipeline rollers. In 2008, during the global financial crisis, we produced our largest polyurethane rollers yet—600mm in diameter and 3,200mm long. In 2009, we installed a new polyurethane processing machine capable of dispensing up to 15kg per minute, and later added a twin pallet machining centre for mould making.
At Richmond, we are proud of our legacy, our family values, and our unwavering dedication to quality.
