Tile cutters all have the same general appearance and are simple hand-operated machines that quickly and efficiently cut tiles cleanly. Thanks to their simple design, tile cutters are fairly easy to operate and can be learnt by most tradesmen fairly quickly.
Generally small and lightweight, tile cutters are incredibly easy to transport and can very easily fit into a car or even a large toolbox in some cases. In most cases, a tile cutter will operate using what is called the 'score and snap' method.
As the name suggests, this is simply where the cutter makes a score in the tile at the chosen dimension, and you snap it along that line. This allows for evenly cut tiles every time.
In some cases, the score and snap method won't be enough to get through the tile. Or may be too slow if you are working on large quantities. In these cases, you may need to consider an electric tile cutter, also called electric tile saw tables.
As the name suggests, these are machines that sit on a small, waist-high table that will cut through tiles for a more automated cut. This removes a good chunk of the manual labour from cutting the tiles but can create more mess to clean up at the same time.
Another benefit of hiring an electric tile saw table, over tile cutters hire, is the fact they are around waist height. Standard tile cutters are simple machines that can be put anywhere, but if you're working in a bathroom or kitchen with nothing to put it on, you will most likely be using it on the floor. This obviously can be very taxing on your back, which makes having a table to work off a big plus.
Most hire companies will offer a range of different sized tile cutters, as well as different hire terms to choose from. Some companies will offer cheap 4 hour hire options, while some will have a minimum of 24 hours. Of course, you may be able to work out a deal for longer hire periods if your project will go for multiple days, or require a number of different tile cutters.
