Review: 2012 Mahindra Pik-up 4WD UTE

2012 Mahindra Pikup: Introduction

It’s no secret how Aussies have been very much in love with their utes. After all, the machine remains a perfect complement for both the Australian terrain and lifestyle. Over the years, these light commercial trucks have also begun growing beyond their traditional rural and tradesman roles thanks to some critical upgrades brought by global manufacturers such as Mahindra. In today’s review, we’ll be taking a closer look at one of the manufacturer’s prime offerings in the country: the 2012 Mahindra Pik-up.

2012 Mahindra Pik-up: Features

Reliable

The Pik-up has a 79 kW power output, a decent effort by Mahindra considering the truck’s modest price range. Meanwhile, as far as pulling its weight the Pik-Up did a fair job considering its expected power output. Unladen, the Mahindra also performs quite well, and although it’s no bullet in the 0-100km/h sprint, managing a casual 18.3 seconds, it will keep with traffic if you keep it on the boil. The truck’s also quite dependable, showcasing good balance in both on and off-road environments.

Comfortable

The cabin and tray area of the truck are both well-sized and offer ample room to operate conveniently. The controls and instrumentations are also easy to reach and demand very little adjustment from operators who are not that familiar with Mahindra’s design mechanics. On the other hand, the brake pedal requires a bit more effort, though, it remains quick to bite. In fact, the pedal’s quite firm upon engagement and it responds well on heavy and sudden braking.

Versatile

What the 2012 Mahindra Pik-up lacks in power, is compensated by the truck’s versatility with regard to handling a variety of material handling and hauling tasks. For its size and total weight, the truck can carry a decent load and is also compatible with a wide range of upgrades and attachments.

2012 Mahindra Pik-up: Verdict

The 2012 Mahindra Pik-up 4WD UTE is a good and welcome alternative to the usual pickup truck options in the Australian market. Why the unit won’t overwhelm you with unique specs and features, but it sure is capable of executing the dirty work for medium-sized businesses who need a reliable truck for transportation and off-road activities. For its price, the 2012 Mahindra Pik-up is definitely one of the light commercial trucks you’ll want to check out if you’re looking for an able replacement or working on a budget to expand your current fleet of trucks.
