Today’s write-up is about Hercules, no not the demi-god that you probably watched on Odyssey, but the wheel loader: the Hercules YX638. Manufactured by a relatively young company, Brisbane Mini Excavators started doing business in the earth-moving industry; afterwards, they decided to branch out and compete with some of the big names out there. In the same manner that Hercules triumphed over the fire-breathing Cacus, will the wheel loader be able to upset its more established competitors? Well, that’s what this review is all about: to figure out if it’s the real deal.
High powered engine
The YX638 is armed with a reinforced drive system and a long wheelbase, but these aren’t the features that make it a cut above the rest. It’s actually the Cummins 6BT5.9·C130 engine, which is known for its power as well as superb reliability and durability. Aside from this, it also comes with an Electro-hydraulic control fixed shaft transmission for its transmission efficiency and comfortable operation.
Reliability and durability
The materials that are used in the YX638 are some of the finest on the market and they are specifically designed to withstand the test of time and wear and tear damages that may accumulate through constant use.
Comfortable and safe cab
Comfort and safety are two aspects that many wheeled loader buyers focus on when purchasing. If you’re one of them, then we’ve got news for you, the YX638 is not only has a clear 360° visibility, it is also ROPS and FOPS certified and pressurised. And to top it all, it boasts of a three-stage shock absorption system as well as a state-of-the-art suspension seat that delivers admirable operator comfort.
Real-time monitoring
The YX638 also comes with a digital instrumental panel that monitors essential data and the overall condition of the loader. It also has an electrical system that is centrally controlled and can be useful when it comes to maintenance and testing. This high-tech feature can ensure that any problem that may arise during use will be immediately addressed.
Rigorous testing procedures
Hercules loaders, including the YX638, undergo rigorous testing to make sure that their strength and reliability are on par with international standards. They are also thoroughly researched, developed, and designed to make sure that they can withstand harsh conditions. Putting these factors into consideration, it can be said that the units that are out on the market are extremely tough, innovative, and everything in between.
Pilot control joystick
A pilot control joystick aka hydraulic assist is an ergonomic stick that is essential when it comes reducing fatigue and boosting comfort. As an added bonus, the said stick also increases productivity in the long run. It works by giving the operator fingertip control with very minimal effort.

While new in the playing field, the Hercules YX638 definitely impressed us. Its functions are superb, its engine is powerful and fuel efficient, its price is light on the pocket, etc. To add, we also loved the cab’s perfect mix of minimalism and sophistication. But like other brands out there, it needs to somehow introduce something that will enable it to directly compete with its bigger and more established counterparts out on the market. It may come in the form of GPS transmission, a better hydraulic system, or tires with better traction. And something tells us that, with their obvious commitment to quality, it won’t be long before the company employs some of these.
