An Introduction to Case Wheel Loaders: Everything You Need to Know

Presented by: Earthmoving Equipment Australia

Case is a brand known for power, durability and performance. Its range of Wheel Loaders leaves many competitors in the dust, thanks to the company’s significant investment in technology. Pioneering innovative cooling systems and machine design, Case has been at the forefront of heavy machinery innovation for years.

In this article, we’re going to explore Case Wheel Loaders, specifically the features that make them stand out from the crowd.

What are Wheel Loaders?

Firstly, a brief introduction to Wheel Loaders. While there are variations out there, most Wheel Loaders feature an arm that lifts and lowers a bucket for the purpose of moving heavy materials from one place to another. They can also be used to dig, but they’re mostly used to lift rocks, gravel, debris, dirt, pallets, and much more. Thanks to the huge range of attachments available, such as buckets, augers, forks, stump grinders and countless others, Wheel Loaders are a lot more versatile than people think.

Importantly, they operate on four large wheels rather than tracks, making them weigh less and cost less to maintain. Let’s explore some of the other great features you’ll find in Case Wheel Loaders.

Unique cooling system

Arguably one of Case’s best innovations, the Case Cooling Cube is an innovative approach to engine cooling. Firstly, the cooling system is in the middle of the machine, rather than at the rear. Since the rear is the dustiest part, this shift ensures cleaner airflow.

Five different radiators are mounted to form a cube, doing away with the traditional back-to-back design. As a result, the Cooling Cube receives clean air from the sides and the top. Using this cube design means heat can be disbursed much faster, enhancing the cooling process.

Another huge advantage of the Cooling Cube is that its position allows the engine to sit lower. Considering the engine’s weight, this change improves stability and lifting capacity.

Heavy-duty performance

We just touched on the fact that Case G-Series Wheel Loaders can achieve a greater lifting capacity due to the engine position. But that’s just the start of the heavy-duty highlights. The G-Series also uses heavy-duty axles that are bigger, stronger and designed to support optimum performance. The axles also have fewer moving parts, making maintenance a lot easier. G-Series Case models achieve less tyre wear and reduced fuel consumption with no friction in the differential and slippage between wheels.

The parallel lift function also offers excellent lifting performance with software capable of performing angle compensation during the lift. The air filter dust ejector also assists the machine’s performance. Utilising the low pressure in the exhaust as a vacuum, the system removes dust caught in the intake filter. If you work in dusty environments, you’ll definitely appreciate this feature.

Reduced maintenance requirements

While Case Wheel Loaders are incredibly high in performance, they’re equally as low in maintenance. There are several ways you can keep your machinery in operation for longer thanks to the improved maintenance requirements. Firstly, the 100% auto-lock open differentials create less friction and wheel slippage, leading to less tyre wear.

Case has also extended the service intervals on the G-Series models, which can save 20% on overall maintenance costs. Daily service checkpoints are also conveniently located to reduce the time spent on checks. Plus, we’ve already mentioned the fewer moving parts, especially in the axles, which result in easier, faster maintenance.

These factors are incredibly important, because downtime for servicing is essentially lost revenue. Maintenance is crucial to keeping your machinery in good condition, but the less you need to do, the more time your machinery makes money for you.

Powerful, efficient engines

The G-Series of Case Wheel Loaders features the revolutionary engine design by FPT Industrial. For example, the Cursor 9 engine has 6 in-line cylinders and a 8.7 L displacement. There is no EGR valve, meaning 100% fresh air is used for combustion. The air intake is also boosted by a turbocharger.

These engines are built to comply with Stage V emissions standards, offering improved fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance. The engine can operate on B7 biodiesel or HVO diesel for those looking to reduce costs even further.

FPT is a multiple award winner, producing more than 500,000 engines each year. The inclusion of FPT engines brings together advanced technologies used for a variety of commercial, agricultural and off road vehicles. For the end user, this represents an engine that’s been highly tailored for Wheel Loader operation.
