Review: Atlas Copco Dynapac LP6500 Duplex Roller

Atlas Copco Dynapac LP6500 Roller: The Introduction

Continuing my series of rollers and compactor reviews, I then decided to feature a Dynapac unit from the Atlas Copco range. The unit is the LP6500 duplex rollers, which I was able to get my hands on just a couple of days ago. Essentially, Atlas Copco is a no newcomer in the industry. For many years, they have been supplying the mining and construction sectors with nothing but heavy-duty road building equipment. Their range of Dynapac machines, particularly, features everything from strong power, to dependable performance. But what makes their LP6500 model stand out among the rest, you might ask? Well, that’s what I will be sharing with you today. Read on as I dig into the capabilities of this duplex roller, and what makes it better compared to the other variants in its class.

Atlas Copco Dynapac LP6500 Roller: Key Features

Reliability

Upon testing, the most noticeable feature of the Dynapac LP6500 is its dependability. The unit’s durable and high quality built makes it the right compaction equipment for both small repair jobs and large operations. It’s ideal for compacting asphalt and soil, too, and does work well when running close to obstructions, like walls. That’s because the machine brings a fully hydraulic design. Aside from that, it also integrates a huge water tank for a longer service and a deadman’s handle and push stop. You can supply it with an electric starter as well. I suggest you talk to your local dealer to for further details about this.

Power

The Dynapac LP6500 is an “ultimate allrounder.” And that’s not surprising at all. Integrating a strong Hatz 1D50S engine that can punch out up to 9 HP, this duplex roller can tackle compaction chores in confined areas, and withstand the demand of any small job or repair work. Did my research and found out that this said Hatz engine is even known to be the most powerful motor in its class. This, then, helps your machine work on thin layers of asphalt and granular soils effectively.

Performance

Like other rollers in the Atlas Copco – Dynapac range, the LP6500 promises an outstanding performance. With a 26-inche drum width, it boasts of a rated speed of 197 feet per minute for forwarding movements, and 125 ft. per minute for reverse. It has a centrifugal force rating of 4,721 ft. lbs, enabling it to handle any soil compaction job that you throw at it.

Furthermore, this walk behind roller also features a world-class oil cooling system. During our test, I find this component very helpful since it controls the oil temperature, resulting in increased productivity. This cooler lets the equipment withstand the harshest working environments, too.

Overall design

Another thing that makes the LP6500 stand out is its water tank. The tank that is supplied with the machine is said to be the largest one on the walk-behind rollers market. Not only does it minimize your need to refill in a day, it also protects the unit’s hydraulic components. Now to complete the picture. this Dynapac product as well brings a heavy-duty protecting frame and a vibration dampening handle.

Atlas Copco Dynapac LP6500 Roller: The Verdict

As you can see, there are a lot of factors that make this Dynapac LP6500 better than other models. One of these is unbeatable power and performance. Incorporating a strong engine and an industry-leading water tank, this walk-behind duplex roller can surely tackle your demanding compaction applications. I personally like its vibration dampened design, since it promotes operator safety and comfort. I also like the fact that it can work well even in confined areas. Indeed, this LP6500 is an ideal choice and a great addition to your operations.
