Cleaning with Dry Ice Blasters in Food Processing Plants
Presented by AKA Cleaning Machines
Intelblast, is a Danish company founded in 2012, that manufactures top quality Dry Ice Blasters. The Intelblast machines are made of top-quality stainless steel and all components are from top international suppliers like FESTO and SIEMENS. All production takes place in 2 locations namely, Denmark or Spain. As a market leader, Intelblast demonstrates superior technology and innovation and has a popular position in the Food Processing industry due to being a safe, environmentally friendly, waterless and odourless cleaning process.
Intelblast distributes their machinery to over 25 countries, including Australia and New Zealand. Including Australia in their client footprint was an obvious choice due to the high demand for sophisticated cleaning processes and the added benefits that businesses incur when using Dry Ice Blasting systems.
Polar Blasting Systems is the direct importer of Intelblast Dry Ice Blasters, and an exclusive Australian and New Zealand distributor and service agent. Polar Blasting System’s Director, Richard Hilton deals directly with the manufacturer in Denmark and has the full support of their design and manufacturing team, keeping abreast of industry innovation.
There are many reasons why clients are using dry ice blasting as part of their maintenance and hygiene practices. Dry Ice Blasting uses Dry Ice Pellets made from the same substance used to carbonate beverages. This method does not generate secondary waste as does sand, soda, water, or grit cleaning. Dry Ice Blasting also replaces chemical and solvent based cleaning.
This versatile process cleans heavy build-up without damage to sensitive areas like electrical components, switches, wiring, photo electric sensors, and more.
Dry Ice Blasting is completely dry, non-abrasive, non-toxic and non-corrosive. It quickly removes most contaminants without damage to switches, panels, lines, tubes, wiring or belts, HVAC equipment and is safe to use on electrical.
The process is very fast and dry. The dry ice disappears on contact and can be performed on-line without disassembly and without the need for drying time.
By incorporating Dry Ice Blasting into your company program, you can rest assured that you are engaging in the best practice for operational maintenance and providing premium hygiene across your line.

Cleaning your Machinery
Grease, grime, bacteria and food residue are notoriously difficult to clean. Traditional cleaning processes require water, and chemicals which create secondary waste, which in turn requires additional cleaning.
Traditional cleaning processes are without a doubt, time consuming, expensive and involve large amounts of “Down-time”. It’s a constant cycle that costs time, labour and money.
Using the Dry Ice Blasting technique in your business, there will be many benefits including the reduction in labour cost, reducing the wear on tooling, leading to a longer lifetime of your machinery and less maintenance issues.
Dry Ice Blasting provides food processing businesses with exceptional cleaning that will prevent bacteria growth – even in hard-to-reach areas like:
- Conveyors
- Packaging lines
- Motors
- Switches
- Panels
- Ovens Food processing
- Slicers
- Mixers
With Dry Ice Blasting, machinery and equipment can be cleaned while the machinery is still operating, or while it is hot, greatly reducing downtime caused by traditional cleaning processes. It’s simple, extremely effective and respects the costs to your business and the environment.

How does Dry Blasting work?
Dry Ice blasting involves propelling solid CO2 pellets at extremely high speeds using compressed air.
Dry ice pellets are quite soft, and much less dense than other media used in other forms of blast-cleaning (i.e., sand or plastic pellets).
Upon impact, the pellets almost immediately sublimate (they turn back into gas), leading to minimal impact to the surface of the machinery. The system is non-abrasive and won’t damage delicate equipment and surfaces.
The combined process of the high-pressure air, the extreme cold temperature (-79°C) and the impact of the dry ice pellets causes the bond to break between the contaminant and the surface which you wish to clean
