Equipment Focus: Cat Loader 930K

There’s no doubt the Cat loader is one of the most popular machines in the industry. Offering more than 30 different machines in their current ranges, across all sizes, it’s no wonder Caterpillar dominates most construction sites.

Compared to skid steers and compact wheel loaders on worksites, the Cat loader 930K may seem large, but Cat has classified these loaders against monster minesite machines. This is why Cat defines the 930K as a “small wheel loader”.

If you’re on the hunt for a wheel loader, checkout these 11 tips for finding the right wheel loader. Otherwise, let’s move straight onto the Cat loader 930K!

Cat Loader 930K Overview

Introduced to the market in 2012, the 930K Cat loader is part of the K Series, designed to set the standard for productivity, fuel efficiency (up to 30% over the H Series) and operator comfort.

A few years later, at the end of 2014, the K series received an update with some changes to the original design:

  • A new Z-bar loader linkage system that replicates parallel lift
  • Updated programming to initiate 3 new modes including
    • Hystat Mode
    • Torque Converter Mode
    • Ice Mode
  • Updated deluxe cab
  • And more (see the Features section of this article)

Cat 930K Features

If you’re looking for a 930K Cat loader for sale, you’re going to want to check out its main features. Take a look below for the 5 main features Caterpillar focused on when designing the 930K loader:

  1. Z-bar linkage
  2. Cab & controls
  3. Powertrain system
  4. Powerful hydraulics
  5. Serviceability

1. Z-Bar Linkage

“Optimised Parallel Lift Z-bar Linkage combines the digging efficiency of a traditional Z-bar with tool carrier capabilities for superior performance and flexibility.”

—Caterpillar

A key to optimising the performance of a wheel loader lies within its linkage. In the Cat 930K loader, the Z-bar linkage provides parallel lift and high tilt forces which gives you more precise control when handling loads throughout the working range.

Thanks to its design, the Z-bar linkage also offers outstanding operator visibility. This is thanks to the lining up of the hydraulic lines, the linkage structure and the width of the lever all in the same spot to maximise visibility.

The Z-bar has also been designed to maintain mechanical advantage and high-hydraulic tilt forces, so you can put all that material into the truck much easier.

2. Spacious Cab & Effortless Controls

“Large, spacious cab features excellent visibility to the front and rear, extremely low sound levels and low-effort ergonomic joystick controls so you can concentrate on your work.”

When you’re stuck in a machine for 10 hours a day, comfort becomes a primary factor in making a purchase decision. Good news—Caterpillar gets it. The K Series cab includes a range of creature comforts as standard to make the job that little bit easier:

  • Low sound levels in the cab
  • Automatic climate control
  • Pressurised cab
  • Suspension seat
  • Tilt and telescopic steering wheel

When it comes to controlling the 930K, Cat have made it simple. With a seat-mounted ergonomic joystick that includes a F/N/R switch, and a diff lock trigger, operating this wheel loader is a breeze.

3. Intelligent Powertrain System

“The Caterpillar exclusive Intelligent Power Management system actively monitors operator input and power availability to keep the machine working at peak efficiency”

The Cat engine, paired with a smooth step-less electronic hydrostatic transmission, provides great ground speed control as well as adjustable power to the ground. The 930K also has fuly locking front differential axles and the best part—can be engaged to full torque with the push of your joystick button.

4. Powerful Hydraulics

The load-sensing hydraulic system makes the 930K stand out from similar brand models. With its intelligent power management system, the 930K’s load-sensing, variable flow system ensures the hydraulic flow and pressure matches your work demands. This means you get full hydraulic force, no matter the engine speed.

5. Serviceability

And of course, to keep your machine as profitable as possible, it has to be well maintained. To help with this, Cat has designed the K series to have all service points accessible at ground level. They’ve also included extended service intervals, as well as included easy-access doors for fast access to filters and service points.
