Venturing to the smaller end of the excavator scale, today we take a look at the Komatsu PC55MR-3. It’s a versatile mini excavator that suits work in a variety of locations, from roadwork and light demolitions, to landscaping and backyard renovations.
The compact design and well-balanced frame makes it a perfect choice for work in tight spaces. Its spacious, comfortable cab design lets you operate it for extended periods of time with ease.
With the x-frame for improved stress resistance and a swing speed of 9 rpm, the Komatsu PC55MR-3 is a mobile excavator that can lift more than expected. The hydraulic travel motor adjusts via the automatic down-shift to suit the job at hand. Whether it’s maximum displacement for quicker movement, or minimum displacement for a high drawbar pull, this excavator can keep up. Operating the two-speed tracking is simple via a switch on the blade lever.

Staying comfortable over the workday is important for higher productivity and reduced operator fatigue. This is why Komatsu designed the cab of the PC55MR-3 to be as ergonomic and simple to operate as possible. The control placement helps reduce operator fatigue, and the air con and ventilation system will ensure you stay at a comfortable temperature.
For added comfort and control, the optional fingertip controls provide maximum precision and minimum finger fatigue when operating the first auxiliary hydraulic line.
And, as a nice touch, the cab features a convenient sliding door for quick, simple entry and exit.
Standard in every Komatsu PC55MR-3 is KOMTRAX. KOMTRAX helps you keep track of your machines and monitor equipment remotely from anywhere, anytime. KOMTRAX can provide reports for machine working time, fleet location, security alarms and you can even program the engine to only start at a predetermined time.
Every minute your excavator is in the workshop is a dollar lost. To speed up regular servicing and maintenance, Komatsu have added wide opening engine bonnets that provide quick, convenient access to major components. And the cab of the PC55MR-3 also tilts back, providing ample room for major maintenance tasks.
The 500-hour engine oil change interval helps keep your excavator running longer, and the ORFS hydraulic seal connectors and DT electrical connectors increase reliability and reduce repair time.
A used Komatsu PC55MR-3 will, on average, cost you about $52,000. But, depending on age, condition and attachments, it’s not strange to see that drop to about $38,000 or up into the $70,000 range.
