Komatsu Years Ahead with Telematics Technology

Komatsu are quickly becoming industry leaders with their accelerated use of machine telematics*. Komatsu’s technology provides huge benefits for owners, operators and fleet managers alike.

KOMATRAX Technology

Recently, Komatsu released new earthmoving machines. All equipped with the Komatsu KOMATRAX Step 5 remote monitoring capabilities. This gives machine owners and fleet managers access to detailed data related to all aspects of the machine’s operation. The data is available online 24/7 via PC, smartphone or tablet.

Todd Connolly, Komatsu General Manager (Construction Solutions), says the data helps owners keep on top of their machine. “That data, combined with Komatsu’s analytical and predictive capabilities based on millions of machine hours of data, allows us to work with our customers to help ensure their Komatsu equipment is always working at its optimum.”

But remote monitoring is one element in Komatsu’s telematics capabilities. Komatsu are moving towards their goal of full machine automation, starting with semi-automation of complex earthmoving activities. These activities include digging, excavating, levelling and grading.

Komatsu Intelligent Machine Control

Mr Connolly discussed the intelligent machine control concept. “In the past 18 months, we’ve introduced our integrated ‘intelligent Machine Control’ concept. This allows machines such as excavators and bulldozers to excavate, bulk out and trim in high-precision complex 3D designs,” Mr Connolly said.

“Customers who’ve used this technology are seeing massive benefits from it. We are already seeing many repeat orders from contractors and plant hirers throughout Australia and New Zealand.”

SMARTCONSTRUCTION Technology

On top of these game-changing technologies, Komatsu have rolled out SMARTCONSTRUCTION. A completely new concept in construction technology.

“SMARTCONSTRUCTION improves site process and productivity, machine control management, machine interconnectivity and review of project progress during the construction phase. Culminating in development of detailed as-built information for future construction and infrastructure maintenance,” he said.

“It gives our customers a real edge in today’s competitive and challenging construction environment,” Mr Connolly added.

It’s exciting to see where machine tech is headed. And with leaders like Komatsu, the technology of the future may be closer than we think.
