Local Lads Making World-Class Custom Classics
There are few things we love more than a fast machine, here at Machines4u. A fast machine, fine-tuned and built to perfection from the ground up? Well, that’s basically catnip to us. So, when we found out about some local lads who are building world-class customs, we may have spent a little too much ‘work time’ with eyes glued to their YouTube channel.
Graeme Brewer of Down Town Customs started off as a one-man band, with a passion for fabrication which led him to open his own workshop. Now with a team of talented blokes behind him, Graeme makes some of the meanest, most beautiful machines you can imagine.
“Taking your project from bare chassis right through to paint and final assembly, we have the know-how, equipment and facilities to offer in-house chassis and suspension fabrication, sheetmetal work (floor pans, tubs, firewalls, etc) engine building, fuel systems, brake systems, braided lines, hard lines, auto electrical work, full wiring, custom exhaust systems and even show winning paint work.”
The results are pretty spectacular, and have been featured by the likes of Street Machine and House of Kolor. Now in their 10th year of operation, the team at DTK have given themselves a bit of a birthday present, with an upgrade to the shop and its machinery.
Now equipped with 3D printers, CNC machines and more, the DTK crew are able to produce their usual high standard of work, without the trial and error involved in building parts by hand. Beyond building customised, one-off pieces, this kind of tech is, in fact, something that even the world’s most luxury car manufacturers are using today. Check out Graeme’s latest video showcasing their new toys.
“Traditionally, custom vehicle building is something that you do by hand. But with this build, we’re really utilising the technology that’s available to us, and building the car [in] the way that our generation has been brought up to use technology.”
