The last few years have been tumultuous. Not only due to the pandemic, but also due to the flow-on effects—including shipping delays, higher import/export taxes and tight stock levels—that are still being experienced. As a result, businesses are turning to local Australian manufacturers to get what they need.
This is especially true for machinery businesses and operators. While the world slowed or even stopped for COVID-19, the machinery industry did not. And it had a huge impact on local Australian brand, Randalls Equipment Company, who locally manufacture heavy-duty log grapples—and are currently the only company to do so in Australia.
With a recent government program unveiled in February 2022, focusing on growing the plantation timber industry and planting 1 billion trees before 2030, the logging industry doesn’t appear to be slowing down. That means demand for logging equipment is likely to continue increasing as more plantations are established.
Engineered in Australia, Randalls rotating grapples are ideal for the toughest logging conditions.
“We’ve been designing and manufacturing forestry equipment for over 50 years,” says Randalls Sales and Marketing Manager, Peter O’Malley.
“Our grapples are heavy-duty models to that can be used with knuckleboom loaders, and as-new equipment like excavators and material handlers,” he adds.
Randalls’ grapples come in a range of sizes suited for different jobs. Here is a snapshot of their grapple range.
Suited to forwarders and small excavators, the low-profile design of the .36HD log grapple provides greater loading height. The tough, alloy steel construction means a higher strength attachment.

With the recent opening of their new facility in Western Junction, Randalls has the opportunity to supply their wide range to even more local Aussies. Peter says their new facility helps strengthen the supply to the market.
“We have recently taken the keys of our purpose-built facility in Western Junction, Launceston. Coupled with our manufacturing facility in Point Cook, Melbourne—where we manufacture our own log grapples and can customise machines to suit requirements—we can ensure we’re meeting the needs of our customers.”
