Review: 2016 Massey Ferguson LZ-60 Zero-Turn Mower

Massey Ferguson LZ-60: The Overview

It’s been a while since I last reviewed a zero-turn mower. But today, after receiving some requests from readers and farming enthusiasts, I’m back with a new model. Popular demand seems to be for a machine that can be used for both residential and commercial applications. Selecting the best unit to recommend to you guys was actually quite a challenge as I know several good brands and ranges that can perform at a top level. But then I remembered this one great mower I was able to get my hands on not so long ago: the LZ-60 from a renowned manufacturer, Massey Ferguson.

Of course, everyone’s needs differ, especially when it comes to machines with multiple applications. But I have a feeling this may be the zero-turn mower you’ve been looking for.

Massey Ferguson LZ-60: Key Features

Unmatched cutting prowess

The Massey Ferguson LZ-60 can get your mowing jobs done quickly. Whether you have a medium-sized lawn or a huge golf course, this equipment won’t let you down when it comes to mowing around borders and edges. Its standard 152cm / 60″ fabricated deck, with three high-precision blades capable of cutting 2.5cm-12.5cm, gives you that flush, professional-looking trim. It also has the ability to extend beyond the mower’s wheels, allowing you to easily shear around trees and flower beds.

Alongside the floating deck, another spec that adds to the cutting prowess is the pair of 30-litre fuel tanks. With a capacity as big as this, you can work for a longer time before needing to refuel, making it perfect for larger jobs.

Powerful engine and transmission

The mower is powered by a Kawasaki engine beefy enough to punch out 27 horsepower. If you’ve ever sweated and sworn over a stubborn mower, you’ll be happy to know it starts with ease and is designed with a long, happy lifespan in mind. The Parker™ hydro Torqpack transmissions contribute to the overall reliability and performance of the mower. What you get is a twin, hydrostatic transmission that offers zero-turn maneuverability. And the twin lap bars, which come standard with the machine, make it easy and comfortable to operate.

Ergonomic design

The best thing about Massey Ferguson is that they always equip their farm machinery with superb comfort features. The LZ-60 is no exception. With armrests, ergonomically laid-out controls and full adjustability, the operator’s throne provides supreme comfort and space.

The LZ-60 also comes with a side-mounted systems monitor. With an easy-to-read hour meter, this innovative feature helps the operator monitor battery voltage, oil pressure, and PTO and park brake operation.

Easy maintenance

Techie or not, you will find this mower model easy to maintain. Essentially, it has a fast-attach deck system, which lets you remove and replace the deck quicker than a marine can assemble his gun, without the need of any tools. It incorporates 4-bolt automotive-style rear hubs, too, that add strength to the wheels to lessen the likelihood of damage and associated costs.

Massey Ferguson LZ-60: Review Conclusion

As a farm machinery reviewer for quite some time now, I was dazzled by the Massey Ferguson LZ-60’s precision mowing prowess around trees, edges, borders, and flower beds. Overall, it’s a reliable machine, fit for both residential and commercial lawns, with a great array of features and an affordable price tag. What more could you ask for?
