Why is High Pressure Compressed Air Becoming so Popular for Laser Cutting?
The main answer is the significant cost savings.
Cutting with high pressure compressed air can save more than $500 / day for a customer running the laser constantly.
A compressor package is a one-off investment with a basic biannual service and the power to operate it. With bottled
or liquid nitrogen, this is an ongoing cost for the gas, the ongoing rental cost for the high-pressure bottles and the
inconvenience of trucks frequently attending site to restock.
The cost is less than 1/8th compared to nitrogen costs.
However, for thicker materials (16mm +) and certain metals, the finish with compressed air cutting can be
much poorer quality which is where most customers use nitrogen when required to do these thicker and
certain metals but reap the savings with high pressure compressed air for the remainder of the time in operation.
