Hose Burst Valves are designed to protect people and equipment in the event of a failure of an hydraulic hose. Australian Standards (AS1418.8) require earth moving equipment such as excavators, backhoes and front-end loaders, used to lift and transport freely suspended loads, be fitted with such a device to protection in the event of an hydraulic hose burst.
Hose burst protection valves
To reduce the risk of a boom or dipper arm collapse on earth moving equipment with a rated capacity greater than one tonne, hose burst protection valves should be fitted on critical hydraulic cylinders. It is recommended the valves meet the requirements of rated capacity as outlined in AS1418.8 section 5.4.3.
When fitted in accordance with the manufacturers specifications Hose Burst valves will stop accidental downward movement of the boom/stick cylinders as is common when an hydraulic hose fails. A correctly specified and fitted Hose Burst Valve will ensure your machinery complies with AS1418.8.
Under the standard, existing equipment with a rated capacity greater than one tonne must be fitted with hose burst protection by the 30th of June 2011. Note you should read or get advice on the application of the standard to your hydraulic equipment as some higher capacity and older equipment must be fitted with safety valves now. Hose Burst Valves have a compact design to enable them to be easily retrofitted to most older machinery.
