This machine is heavy duty construction similar to the 1M63 series except with increased centre height and increased spindle main drive power with maximum diameter over the bed 830mm, maximum diameter over the carriage 490mm, distance between centres 5000mm.
FEATURES
This machine is a heavy duty Lathe built to toolroom standards and is very accurate both in diameter turning and longitudinal accuracy. The main speed box has 22 speeds ranging from 10 1250 rpm and is in a fully enclosed gearbox with its own lubrication system. All gears and spline shafts in the gearbox and feed boxes are hardened and ground and of course the bed is hardened and ground. The clutches are manual, one forward clutch and one reverse clutch actuated by a lever mounted just below the chuck on the side of the bed and another lever on the right hand side of the saddle.
The speed box is also fitted with an electro magnetic brake which is automatically applied when the lever controlling forward and reverse direction is put in the neutral position. The feed box is completely separate to the main gearbox and is located at the front of the machine below the main gearbox. It has its own separate lubrication system and oil reservoir and the controls mounted on the front of the feed box control the feeds, the number being 32 and also thread cutting changes of which there are a full range of metric, English and modular threads.
The machine can be started by an electrical switch gear mounted on two places, one on the headstock and one on the saddle. Two switches are supplied for convenience when using the lathe on long work.
The saddle is supplied with quick traverse which is driven through a separate motor mounted on the right hand lower end of the saddle and supplies drive through a gear box which has a separate lubrication system to drive the quick traverse longitudinal, cross slide, and compound slide. The quick traverse is controlled by a four way switch mounted on a panel above the quick traverse electric motor. The compound slide has a movement of 200mm. This can be set at any angle for use for machining tapers with the aid of a power feed. It is possible to use a combination of the top slide and longitudinal slide or a combination of top slide, longitudinal and cross slide feeds with the aid of a formula supplied in the manual to cut tapers of any angle using power feeds up to a maximum length of approximately 900mm.
The tailstock is fitted with a number 6 morse taper and is similar to all other tailstocks with one exception when undoing the four bolts that clamp it to the bed it raises up on spring loaded wheels making it very easy to slide down the length of the bed.
The machine is also supplied with two steadies, one fixed steady which will take a maximum diameter of 350mm and it is fitted with rollers, ideal for carrying very heavy work. The other is a travelling steady, maximum diameter approx. 150mm.
Please refer to drawing number 06 1022 attached which gives details of the loads placed on the foundation of this machine. The foundation depth should be calculated by a Civil Engineer using this chart and the results of soil test.
